Our Refinishing Process
First Step When beginning the process of refinishing doors we typically mask all the glass included in the entry way. We also mask the ground section around the door so no material from the door refinishing process makes its way onto your porch.
Second Step This is where the hard work begins. To properly restore wooden doors the doors must be stripped entirely back to bare wood. This is what separates us from the competition. This is tedious, difficult work but must be done to ensure the new finish looks and adheres properly. Many competitors who offer entry door refinishing only lightly sand the door before refinishing. In doing this, they leave much of the old finish on the door which does not allow the new stain to absorb properly and can result in splotchy finishes that don’t adhere properly.
Third Step After the door has been properly stripped, we work with the homeowner to select the desired stain color. We use the highest quality industrial stains, not what is typically purchased at your local big box home supply store.
Fourth Step Once the stain is dry we begin the process of applying the topcoat. We use the highest quality European Marine Urethane that provides protection to the doors against the elements. Additionally, just like with all of our furniture projects, we spray the finish when refinishing doors. This provides for a higher quality, smooth, furniture like finish. We spray a total of 4 coats, sanding in between coats to achieve a high quality result.
Fifth Step Lastly, and after the homeowner has inspected and approved the work, we clean up thoroughly, leaving the exterior entrance clean and ready for your next guest. Please call today and allow us to provide you with a no cost quote.
